Northeastern Hospital began as a two-story row house in 1910 on Agate Street at Allegheny Avenue. As the residential population grew, so did the hospital. The hospital was chartered in 1912 by the state as a non-profit institution and, in that year, local businessmen formed the Board of Directors that supervised the facility. 888888888888888

The Hospital flourished and in 1918, a new fifty-bed hospital was erected on the present site. In 1967 the seven-story Tower Building was added, bringing the Hospital’s capacity to 231 beds at that time. Seven years later, the Mandell Pavilion was opened adding another 57 beds for a total of 288. In 1976 the Helene Fuld Building was completed, housing the School of Nursing, which has been in existence since 1923.

The Hospital is currently licensed at 189 beds providing medical/surgical, and maternity inpatient care. Northeastern Hospital also offers a wide range of emergency, diagnostic and outpatient services. The Hospital’s primary service area is the communities of Port Richmond, Kensington, Frankford, Fishtown, Nicetown and Bridesburg.

In January of 1995 Northeastern Hospital became part of the Temple University Health System. This relationship enables the patients of Northeastern Hospital to have easy access to world-class medical services and physicians at Temple University Hospital when their condition requires.
